Projects

Upon project selection, the Solarplaza Foundation’s Board performs a close study of the alignment of the project with its mission “to accelerate the sustainable energy transition for all”. What does this mean?

ACCELERATE / The project enables us to multiply our impact by the support of our network of partners, in terms of funding, knowledge and material support.

SUSTAINABLE / The project is executed in a sustainable manner, meaning their impacts are maximized and their models are replicable and long-term oriented. The investment should be in balance with the outcome.

ENERGY TRANSITION / The project directly supports the transformation of fossil forms of energy into solar forms of energy.

FOR ALL / The project is oriented at locations where there is relative scarce access to sustainable forms of energy; whether this is a neighborhood that is comparatively underprivileged or a country where access to energy is still a basic necessity to fulfill. The project impacts people’s lives by improving access to sustainable forms of energy.

sopowerful

sopowerful foundation was established in 2019 and has the mission to apply ‘solar where it matters most’, this is in contexts where it impacts lives of people at the ‘ bottom of the pyramid’.
The solar power installations sopowerful realizes enable or empower Healthcare, Education or access to Water where this creates (or improves) opportunities for children.sopowerful has successfully (crowd)funded and realized two projects and is working hard on its third one right now.

SecondSolar Ukraine

With frequent blackouts due to the Russian invasion, it's more important than ever to provide alternative energy sources to places like hospitals, schools and factories. We believe that second-hand solar panels that still have a lot of life left in them should not go to waste. That's why we have partnered with ZonNext, USAID ERA, LCF and the Solarplaza Foundation to launch a fundraising campaign aimed at providing solar energy to Ukraine where it’s most needed.

Grid Alternatives

GRID’s vision is a transition to clean, renewable energy that includes everyone. This vision can only be realized with a solar workforce that has opportunities for all. GRID is committed to making our job training opportunities accessible and inclusive of groups that are traditionally underrepresented in solar including women, people of color and those impacted by the criminal justice system. We have several programs and initiatives to provide training and connect employers to job seekers.

Projects we’ve helped realize

Mwanyama Clinic
(February 2020)

The aim of sopowerful foundation is to bring solar power “where it matters most”: where it impacts lives of people at the base of the pyramid. This first project entails the electrification of a small, off-grid clinic in rural Malawi, which will enable essential health care services to be taken to the next level. Achieving this will make a significant, tangible and long-term impact on the lives of +1.700 villagers.

The Solarplaza Foundation has contributed via funding and use of its network in the solar industry to accelerate the successful funding of this project.

    Zounhomey Solar Kiosk
    (June 2021)

The project is designed to provide a women’s groups with a material endowment in the form of a collective charging kiosk powered by photovoltaic panels. The operating mode of the kiosk is based on the provision of solar lamps/batteries for each beneficiary household, in exchange for the payment of a sum, which also gives access to telephone recharging. These monthly amounts collected by the manager are deposited in a specific bank account opened for this purpose. These funds are used for the maintenance and repair of the equipment and for the renewal of the batteries. At the start of the project, the association provides the group with a coordinator and a technician to monitor, maintain and service the equipment, and to train the group members and the manager in particular in adopting correct habits and practices to ensure maximum lifespan of the equipment.

The Solarplaza Foundation has contributed via funding and exposure at a Solarplaza event.
